Welcome to the Guam Territorial Band Website
The Guam Territorial Band is the official band for Guam.
Graduations, military change of command ceremonies, village fiestas, grand openings, and state funerals are just a few of the venues that the band performs on a regular basis. We provide music for most type of occasions. Music can be planned for specific or specialty events.
The band plays a wide variety of repertoire to enchant the young and the forever young at heart by performing concert band masterworks, jazz standards and a vast number of contemporary hits that include the soundtrack to the latest theatrical releases.
Marches, military bugle calls and national anthems are a standard part of our repertoire. We strive to make available music for most occasions.
History of the Guam Territorial Band Biography Compiled by M. Ronquillo, Jr.
In 1976, and probably even years prior, the Guam Youth Band, was organized as a marching band to perform for the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter in 1977. Since then, the Guam Youth Band has been an active part of musical life on Guam providing a service to the community. The Guam Territorial Band, as it is now known, is the Official Band of Guam.
The Band also serves as an educational outreach for those who desire more than what their school band programs provide. The Band has become a second home to many of the youth members through the years and has served as an anchor for those who experience the trials of teenage and college life.
The Band has sponsored various island wide groups and several tours to Hawaii for the Pacific Basin Music Festival. The Guam Territorial Band has toured Australia and New Zealand (1993, 2005), South Korea (1995), The Republic of Palau (1997), the United Kingdom (1998), and Japan (1999, 2003). It is a Gold Award (2005) and a Bronze Award (1993) recipient of the Australian International Music Festival. It is also the second place winner of the International Lions Parade (Marching Unit) Competition (1998).
The Band is continuing its service to the People of Guam. Graduations, Military Change of Commands, Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, Marine Corp Birthday, Opening Ceremonies, Presidential Visits, and Village Fiestas are among the many venues the band has served over the years. In 1997, the band performed in the Republic of Palau for President Kuniwo Nakamura during the 5th Constitutional Anniversary. In 1998, the Band performed for President William Jefferson Clinton’s historical visit to Guam. In 2002, the Band played for Philippine former President Fidel Ramos.
Former Directors of the Guam Territorial Band include Mr. Dave Poblete, the former Ms. Cheryl Bay, Mr. Charles Hardy, Mr. Brad McNeal, Dr. Milton Crotts, Mr. Delfin Damian and the late George Toal, the first director and a founding member of the Guam Territorial Band Society.
The membership of the Band spans a vast age range from early adolescence through senior citizens. Each fall, an audition is held to maintain the high quality of musicianship. New members are welcome at anytime through the year.
